Daytrip to Tautra.

«Visit the historical monastery island Tautra! We sail from Trondheim and out into the beautiful nature of the fjord. On Tautra you may explore the ruins of the old monastery, enjoy delicious Norwegian food, go bird watching and buy local products in the cozy little farmer’s shops.»

Welcome aboard our modern Trawler Ranja! Sailed by a team of passionate young local skippers she will take you on a day trip to the historical monastery island Tautra! The tour starts in the “Brattørabassenget” bay in the city center of Trondheim. From there we sail out onto the beautiful Trondheimsfjord, and cross the Strindfjord as we set our course to Tautra. On the way the guide may tell you about it’s interesting history and fascinating nature. After ca. 1 hour and 45 minutes we arrive on Tautra island.

Here you may explore the ruins of the old Cistercian monastery from the 12th century, admire colorful art, take a relaxing stroll through a species-rich bird reserve and visit the Mary’s monastery, an active catholic monastery inhabited by nuns belonging to today’s Cistercian order.

For a delicious lunch we gladly reccommend stopping at the cozy monastery farm “Klostergården”, that also has a little farmer’s shop where you may buy locally produced products of high quality. You may explore the island by yourself, but the guide is always happy to accompany you.

After a wonderful stay on Tautra island we then set our course back to Trondheim again, and will enjoy the return-voyage with a beautiful view onto snow-covered mountains in the distance and the skyline of Trondheim moving closer with time - to the sound of the wind, waves and seaguls.
