The adventure begins before the climb.
We leave Trondheim and travel west to Flakk, where the local ferry carries us across Trondheim Fjord to Fosen. The crossing is part of the experience: city and mainland recede behind us while the mountain landscape ahead grows closer.
Munkstigen opened in 1998 as Norway's first via ferrata. Its 950-metre protected climbing route rises from near sea level toward the summit of Munken, around 500 metres above the fjord. Fixed safety cables guide the way, but the route keeps a natural character—there is real rock beneath your hands and a view that grows with every section.
No previous climbing experience is required, but this is a physical mountain day. You should have good general fitness, be comfortable with heights and be ready to keep moving for several hours. Your guide provides instruction, helps fit the equipment and keeps the group together through the climb.
The weather belongs to the story.
Sun, cloud, wind and light can transform the fjord while we climb. We prepare for changing conditions and adjust the day when needed. If the mountain is not safe, we do not climb—your guide's decision is always final.
